Game process
Flappy Play Bird features 2D graphics gameplay. The object of the game is to control the flight of the bird, which moves continuously between the rows of green pipes. Upon collision with them, the game ends. Control is performed by touching the screen, in which the bird makes a small jerk upward. If there is no jerk, the bird falls due to gravity, and the game also ends. Points are earned for each successful flight between two tubes. The gameplay does not change throughout the entire game.
Development of
Flappy Play Bird was developed by Dong Nguyen. within a few days. The main character of the game (the bird) was developed in 2012 for another game, which was discontinued. Nguyen himself claims that every part of his games has a passage, and he does not create impenetrable games.
Nguyen thinks that modern Western games are too confusing. His company, .GEARS Studios, says of its games, "It's clean, extremely challenging and incredibly fun to play."

Flappy Play Bird was originally released on May 24, 2013 with iPhone 5 support. The game was subsequently optimized for iOS 7 in September 2013. In January 2014, the game topped the list of free apps in the US and Chinese App Store, the same month in the UK App Store, where it was advertised as "the new Angry Birds". In early 2014, The Verge reported that developers were earning $ 50,000 per day for in-app ads.
Clones
On February 10, 2014, Flappy Play Bird was removed by the developer from the App Store and Google Play. The deletion sparked the emergence of numerous parodies of the game. Two days after the removal of the original game, CNET published a review of seven clones of the game, calling them rather distant from the original, but highlighting Splashy Fish as the closest clone to Flappy Play Bird.
Due to the popularity of Flappy Play Bird, Dong Nguyen's other games such as Super Ball Juggling and Shuriken Block reached # 6 and # 18 on the App Store charts in early February 2014, respectively.
Testimonials
Flappy Play Bird has received various reviews from critics. On Metacritic, the game received an average of 52 out of 100, based on votes from seven critics.
Tech editor Patrick O'Rourke of Canada.com wrote that he hates Flappy Play Bird, "an absolutely terrible video game," and that it is "one of the worst games I've ever played," and suggests that people are quitting play because "it sucks."
However, more positive feedback came from Jennifer Whiteside of Amongtech.com, who suggested that the game could outshine Candy Crush Saga as the most popular mobile game of 2014 due to the addictiveness and excitement surrounding the game.
The complexity of the gameplay became a source of anger from many players, one of whom stated that it took him half an hour to reach five points.
