What would happen if a sport was created that combined parts of ice hockey with soccer? Well, the result would is an exciting and intense sport called field hockey. This lesson will examine field hockey, providing information about its rules, skills, techniques, equipment, and strategies.
One of the most important skills in field hockey is the ability to control the ball while running, a skill that is known as dribbling. In order to develop this skill, a person should start out by lightly hitting the ball a few feet at a time as they walk. As the person becomes more proficient at controlling the ball as they walk, they should try jogging while dribbling the ball. Ultimately, they want to work up until they are able to run as fast as they can while dribbling the ball.
Another important skill in field hockey is passing. To develop this skill, two people should stand about 10 feet away from each other. These people should hit the ball back and forth, using their stick to stop each pass. As the players becomes proficient at passing from 10 feet, they can move farther away from each other."
