Pincode, popularly known as “Postal Index Number”, is a 6-digit long numerical code. This code is primarily used by the India Post Department to ensure the accurate delivery of posts to the correct recipients. The postal code index system was first introduced by Shriram Bhikaji Velankar on 15th August 1972 aiming to make it easy to use for manual sorting and delivery of mails.
