Dawn or Doom '18 is a free public conference at Purdue University that explores the effects of rapidly emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and bioengineering, by bringing together leading national experts and stars from Purdue’s large constellation of researchers.
The 2018 conference, set for Nov. 5 and 6, will address some of the most important issues today, including:
* Machines: artificial intelligence, robotics, autonomous vehicles and drones
* Mind: internet and social media effects
* Body: bioengineering and human design
* Data: Internet of Things, privacy and cybersecurity
Featured speakers at Dawn or Doom ’18 include:
* Nicholas Carr, author and Pulitzer Prize finalist for “The Shallows: What the Internet Is Doing to Our Brains”
* Naomi Grewal, global head of Insights at Pinterest
* Frank Pasquale, law professor and expert on the law of artificial intelligence, algorithms and machine learning
* Thomas Frey, futurist, author and founder of the Davinci Institute
* Jennifer Lyons, data designer and speaker at Evergreen Data
Related events throughout the two days include interactive exhibits with advanced virtual and augmented reality technology and a national journalist’s panel featuring technology writers from national and local publications, along with technology-themed art exhibits, a data dive competition, and research poster and writing contests.
