Description

GL Compass gives you accurate heading, and direction of travel. We use innovative sensor fusion techniques to compute and display the most accurate heading. Based on availability, sensor data from Accelerometer, Magnetometer, and Rotation Vector Sensor is polled and filtered to enable this sensor fusion.
GL Compass uses the World Magnetic Model (WMM-2015) produced by the United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in order to estimate and display magnetic declination at your location. This is then applied to find the True North or Geographical North if desired.
An in-built Flashlight is super handy for illumination in darkness. The GPS location feature lets you view your coordinates in raw format as well as on a Map. You can easily share your accurate location over your choice of communication as latitude/longitude and a clickable Google Maps link.
Features:
1)
Accurate heading and direction
2) Bright LED flashlight
a) Smartly remembers last state (when app is minimized/refocused or sreen is turned OFF/ON)
3) Location information
a) Get latitude/longitude or view on Map
b) Share the location info (raw and Map link)
c) Horizontal accuracy of your location, radial, in meters
d) Altitude in meters above the WGS 84 reference ellipsoid
e) Location provider's name that generated the fix
f) Magnetic declination at the location
g) Strength of magnetic field at the location
4) Option to apply magnetic declination to find the True Bearing/North
5) Viewing ad(s) is completely up to user's choice
6) Beautiful, functional user interface (UI) that follows Material Design principles, and guidelines
Accuracy: GL Compass has been programed to provide high accuracy. However, the accuracy ultimately depends on the inertial sensors equipped on your device. Accuracy can be improved by following methods:
1) Hold the device flat in your palm pointing in the direction desired
2) Recalibrate your device sensors by moving the device 2~3 times in figure 8 and/or ∞
pattern
3) If the readouts appear to be "stuck" on cold start - move the device side-to-side. GL Compass uses the change in the inertial sensor values to compute heading. Specifically, older devices, stationary for too long could suffer from this.
Magnetic Declination: We use the WMM-2015 model produced by the United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency to estimate the magnetic declination. More info here: https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/geomag/WMM/DoDWMM.shtml
You can verify the magnetic declination for your location here: https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/geomag-web/#declination
Note: Starting API 23 and above, GL Compass needs runtime permission to display location information. We do not collect any User data, and more details can be found in our Privacy Policy.
We have tested GL Compass thoroughly on following devices without any issues
1) Google Pixel (Android 8, API 26)
2) Moto X Pure Edition (Android 6, API 23)
3) Nexus 5X (Android 7, API 24)
4) Nexus 7 (Android 7, API 24)
5) LG LGLS660 (Android 4.4.2, API 19)
