The Gunks app is a complete digital guidebook to the Trapps, Near Trapps, and Peter's Kill areas of the Shawangunks. It covers rock climbs and bouldering problems in the Mohonk Preserve, Minnewaska State Park, McKenzie Pond, Nine Corner Lake, and Thacher State Park in New York State; Haycock Mountain, Governor Stable, and Birdsboro Quarry in Pennsylvania; Mountainside Park and Sourland Mountain in New Jersey; Central Park and other parts of Manhattan and New York City; Lincoln Woods in Rhode Island; and more.
Climbs are accessed from a filtered list, which can be searched and filtered by name, grade, and stars. Selecting a climb reveals a base photo, the route's description, and a high-resolution zoom-able aerial topo photo or map. The topographic photos include belays, rappelling information, variations, and new link-ups.
The app includes GPS to find the nearest climb, navigate to a destination, and show where you are on the map. Gunks manages your Tick List and To-Do List, with Cloud backup. It also has a gallery of professional photographs and an informational kiosk for the community to share announcements.
