Jurusan kehutanan berdiri pada tahun 1999 dan kini memperoleh status Terakreditasi “B' dari BAN PT. Jurusan Kehutanan UMM merupakan satu-satu jurusan Kehutanan yang ada di Wilayah Jawa Timur dengan program sarjana strata 1 (satu).
Untuk memenuhi kebutuhan sumberdaya manusia bidang kehutanan yang berkualitas dalam menjawab tantangan pengelolaan sumberdaya hutan ke depan, Jurusan kehutanan telah mengembangkan IPTEK sesuai dengan keahliannya. Untuk mendukung hal tersebut jurusan kehutanan telah menjalin kerjasama dengan instansi kehutanan dan perguruan mitranya, antara lain: Kementerian Kehutanan RI di bidang penelitian dan pengembangan sumber daya hutan yang meliputi: bidang rehabilitasi hutan dan lahan, konservasi sumberdaya hutan, dan pemberdayaan masyarakat sekitar hutan, Perum Perhutani II Jawa Timur dalam bentuk praktik kerja lapang dan penelitian serta dengan Fakultas Kehutanan UGM dalam bentuk pendidikan dan praktek umum.
Sebagai penunjang kurikulum yang berbasis kompetensi, jurusan kehutanan telah menyiapkan staf pengajar yang memiliki keahlian terkait dengan aspek kewirausahaan yang berbasis kelestarian lingkungan, keahlian dibidang lingkungan hidup (kualifikasi sertifikat AMDAL ), kompetensi penilai mutu bibit, dan kompetensi di bidang konservasi sumberdaya hutan alam, sehingga lulusan kehutanan mampu berkompetisi di dunia kerja terbukti dengan banyak alumni yang bekerja di Instansi pemerintah maupun swasta.
Department of Forestry was established in 1999 and is now gaining the status of Accredited 'B' from BAN PT. Forestry Department at UMM is the only department of Forestry in East Java with graduate programs strata 1 (one).
 
To meet the human resource needs of the forestry sector to answer the challenge of quality in the future management of forest resources, forestry Department has developed science and technology in accordance with their expertise. To support that department of forestry has been cooperating with the forestry agency and university partners, among others: the Ministry of Forestry of Indonesia in the field of research and development of forest resources include: areas of forest and land rehabilitation, conservation of forest resources, and the empowerment of forest communities, Perum Perhutani East Java II in the form of the practice of field work and research as well as with the Faculty of Forestry in the form of education and general practice.
 
As a supporter of curriculum based on competence, majoring in forestry has prepared faculty with expertise related to aspects of entrepreneurship-based environment, expertise in the field of the environment (qualification certificate EIA), the competence of assessors seed quality, and competence in the field of resource conservation of natural forests, so forestry graduates able to compete in the job market as evidenced by the many alumni who work in government and private institutions.
