As per the World Health Organisation (WHO), Nipah Virus is a newly emerging zoonosis that causes a severe disease in both animals and humans.
Nipah virus infection has proven to be fatal in 70 per cent of the cases. Since the first outbreak which happened in 1998 in Malaysia, the incidents of outbreak have occurred almost every year in Bangladesh and twice in West Bengal, India. The medicines given only treat the symptoms and the neurological problems as the vaccine is yet to be developed.
