This is a background service, which provides secure communication, and is used by both apps and other background services.
To use this service, you need to install some other app or service, for instance Mist, which is a generic management app for your personal perspective of your IoT network.
The distributed trust-based networking uses self-generated autonomous identities on each node. All communication uses public key encryption, without third parties.
This service provides a trust-based environment for the apps or local services. All Mist-based apps are depending on this service app.
This service provides a completely distributed communication which is end to end encrypted, and it's responsible for identity management and authentication. The trust-based communication uses locally self-generated identities which are bound to a crypto key pair, which is extensively used for all activities.
Note: this service uses relay servers when needed for relaying the encrypted communication between nodes that are not directly accessible on public IP addresses. These servers are not able to decrypt the communication, but they are required for piggybacking, in order to reach nodes behind firewalls or on NAT networks.
