Europe is a Swedish band of heavy metal, founded in the locality of Upplands Väsby, Stockholm in 1979 under the name of Force by the vocalista Joey Tempest and the guitarist John Norum. His style incorporates elements of Hard rock and Heavy metal; During the 80s and early 90s they were very influenced by the glam metal of the time, although their sound was closer to the melodic Rock. Since his return in 2003 and until today, his music matured away from the sound that had characterized them during the eighties, adopting a less commercial style and more rooted in heavy metal. In total, Europe has released nine studio albums, three albums in concert, three compilations and seventeen music videos.
Europe achieved international fame in the 1980s with their third album The Final Countdown (1986), with notable commercial success and sold more than 10.2 million copies in the United States alone. The band was one of the most successful rock shows of the decade and sold more than four million albums in that country and more than 30 million albums around the world. The group had altogether two discs in the Top 20 in the list of Billboard 200 (The Final Countdown and Out of This World) and two singles in the Top 10 of Billboard Hot 100 ("The Final Countdown" and "Carrie").
Following the significant loss of popularity that affected the genre in the early 90s, Europe took a long break in 1992, meeting temporarily in a single presentation in Stockholm, for a celebration of the new year in 1999.
The announced and expected official meeting took place in 2003. Since then, and under a new style, they have released five more albums: Start from the Dark (2004), Secret Society (2006), Last Look at Eden (2009), Bag of Bones (2012) and War of Kings (2015).
