The Indian Railways have set up this Institute at Nasik Road for imparting training to Probationers of Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE) , recruited through Indian Engineering Services Examination conducted by UPSC, New Delhi. In addition, IRIEEN also conducts training courses for serving Electrical Engineers of Indian Railways.
