A novena is a beautiful custom where for nine days, a person prays to God about a particular intention, need, or cause. It’s a powerful way of focusing our minds, energies, and time on God, sharing with the Lord our concern and desire for something really important. A novena naturally builds a special intimacy with God—and it’s the perfect atmosphere for deepening our vocational discernment, to understand how God is calling us to love.
This novena Discern It! is set up with four elements that you can use each day to deepen your vocational discernment:
- a beautiful invitation from Jesus
- a Scripture passage in which you can receive God’s light and guidance on your spiritual journey of drawing closer to him, along with a reflection geared specifically for those discerning their vocation
- journal questions that can help you to grow in your self-knowledge and discernment
- suggested concrete actions you can take each day
In addition, a series of short interviews by Sr. Margaret Michael Gillis—which can be viewed one a day, or all together—can further offer you some practical insight into your discernment from an experienced vocation director.
