تعريف الدعاء لغةً الدعاء في اللغة مصدر دعوت الله، وأدعوه دُعاءً ودعوى: أي ابتهلت إليه بالسؤال، ورجوت فيما عنده من الخير، وتأتي بمعنى النداء، فيُقال: دعا الرجل دعواً ودعاءً أي ناداه، ودعوت شخصاً أي ناديته وطلبت منه الحُضور، ودعا المُؤذّن الناس إلى المسجد فهو داعي، وجمعها دعاةٌ وداعون، ودعاه يدعوه دعاءً ودعوى: أي رغّب إليه، ودعا إلى أمرٍ: ساقه إليه.
