Although St. Philomena was martyred teenager in the early days of the Church, its existence was not known until May 24, 1802, when his remains were found in the catacomb of St. Priscilla. On 10 August 1805 his relics were transferred to Mugnano del Cardinale (Italy), where their sanctuary is today. Among the main propagators of this holy cult recent knowledge, figure St. Juan María Vianney (the Curé), a great devotee of it and to whom the composition of some litanies in her honor is due. Other saints also known for their devotion to this saint were: San Antonio María Claret, San Juan Nepomuceno, San Pedro Chanel, St. Francisca Javier Cabrini and venerable Paulina Jaricot, founder of the Association of the Living Rosary.
