Kimetrius Foose was born August 4, 1998 in Chambersburg, Pennslyvania to multiracial parents. His parents are divorced and he remains close to his mother and stepfather, but claims that his father was the biggest influence in his early life. Growing up he loved to listen to music, he would listen to Lil Wayne and 50 Cent. He lists Lil Uzi Vert, ski mask, smokepurpp and Travis Scott as musical influences, but also says that you can’t just listen to rap and you have to appreciate all types of music. His father was an aspiring musician and introduced him to rap, his stage name is “Dark Skies”, and he is the reasoning for Lil Skies’ name because everyone saw him and his dad and decided to call him Lil Skies. He has been handing out mixtapes since the 3rd grade and was known in high school as the rapper dude. After high school, he attended Shippensburg University, but would soon drop out because his music career was starting to take off on SoundCloud and YouTube.
In 2016, Foose enrolled in Shippensburg University and began to advance towards taking his music career more seriously. In October 2016, Foose opened for Fetty Wap and later released his first mixtape, Alone in January 2017.
In July 2017, Foose released his first official single, "Red Roses." The song later debuted at 98 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at no. 69. In October 2017, “Red Roses” music video debuted produced by director Cole Bennett. In December 2017, Foose released "Nowadays" featuring Landon Cube. The song debuted at 85 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at no. 55.
Foose released his debut studio album, Life of a Dark Rose on January 10, 2018. The album debuted at no. 23 and peaked at no. 10 on the Billboard Hot 200.
