Current Development Status: Beta TestingScIP Mobile is a mobile image processing application for Android and iOS that implements entrylevel textbook algorithms in order to transform and convert images, detect image features, and provide a multitude of experimentation options for the curious user. Features include the ability to apply image processing algorithms to images taken from either the device camera or local memory, the ability to save transformed images, and the ability to apply algorithms in realtime to the camera image feed or local videos. Image processing options include basic point operations such as brightnesscontrast enhancement and thresholding, conversions between grayscale and different color spaces and visualized manipulation of different components within those color spaces, spatial filters operations such as Gaussian blurring and Unsharp Masking using optimized convolution routines, edge detection operations, color image segmentation, and complex combination algorithms such as the Sketch algorithm which produces a pencil sketch transformation of any input image. Every image transformation represented in the application is contained in most entrylevel image processing textbooks which allows it to serve as a great companion for both students and hobbyists learning basic image processing techniques. ScIP Mobile began as a school project and is currently in very early beta phase. Our focus has been on building a modular and robust underlying framework for image and video processing functionality. Therefore, the current release build has a placeholder UI which will be updated heavily and most likely changed dramatically in the near future. Due to the skeletal nature of the current UI you will most likely find bugs and inconsistencies; please feel free to comment on what you find and offer suggestions on better alternatives. The realtime video processing is also currently very underoptimized and we are hoping for feedback on performance across different devices and Android platforms. We are currently working on a full overhaul of the realtime processing system in order to take advantage of device GPUs if available which should speed up performance considerably. Lastly, we currently have a working build of a server version of ScIP that allows users to send large imagesvideos from their device to a PC for faster processing; after the imagevideo is processed it is sent back to the phone in full resolution. We will be releasing this module in the future after some consideration regarding how best to deploy it; we welcome feedback on whether there would be any interest in the release of such a server processing module.
