What is the meaning of Aidilfitri?
Aidilfitri is the Malay word for
Eid al-Fitr
(festival of the breaking of the fast).
Celebrated by all the Muslims around the world, this is one of the most important and famous religious holiday.
This holiday celebrates the ending of the holy month of
Ramadan
and also the finish of the fasting. This is the only day in the year in which Muslims are not allowed to fast.
By tradition, it is commemorated in the day, starting at sunset, in which it can be seen for the first time the crescent moon, a bit after sunset.
If for some reason the moon can’t be seen on the 29th day of fasting, then it will be celebrated next day and so it will be 30 days of fasting.
Aidilfitri is the first day of the month of Shawwal.

The day of the festival of the breaking of the fast, Aidilfitri, has special prayers and Muslims are commanded by
Allah
to pay their zakat right before offering this prayers.
