Description of Waterweed Wipeout

This augmented reality experience accompanies the information sheet "Waterweed Wipeout: Lake Mulwala" which can be downloaded from www.mdba.gov.au (go to Education).
Waterweed Wipeout puts you in charge of managing beautiful Lake Mulwala. The lake is threatened by the invasive water weed, Egeria densa. Your job is to control the weed by controlling the lake's water levels, but be careful! The lake is important for locals as well as towns and farms downstream, so make sure the lake is fullest in the warmer months for everyone to enjoy. Control the water weed over time to unlock rewards.
Lake Mulwala is on the New South Wales/Victoria border, between the towns of Mulwala (NSW) and Yarrawonga and Bundalong (Vic). The lake formed when Yarrawonga Weir was built across the River Murray in 1939 ‒ primarily to supply irrigation water, which remains important. Building the lake meant flooding of the natural water course and low-lying riverside areas. The water in Lake Mulwala is managed today by the Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA), and Yarrawonga Weir is operated by Goulburn-Murray Water.
Mulwala is believed to mean ‘big lagoon or big back water’ in the language of the Traditional Owners, the Bangerang and Yorta Yorta Nations. The area is culturally important for these peoples and is popular with locals and tourists who love to camp, fish, boat, water-ski and bird-watch. All these things, as well as farming, are important for the local economy. So see if you can keep everyone happy!
The MDBA acknowledges and pays respect to the Traditional Owners, and their Nations, of the Murray–Darling Basin, who have a deep cultural, social, environmental, spiritual and economic connection to their lands and waters. The MDBA understands the need for recognition of Traditional Owner knowledge and cultural values in natural resource management associated with the Basin.
