The best modern way to play this NES classic: not only is this version more balanced, but it also explains what you need to do, and you should go about it. The remixes of the classic songs are perfect, although they are more stale for me, as they show up in dragon quest builders as well.

The original adventure that started it all for console RPGs. This is an amazing port from Square Enix and it has optimized controls and feels good to pick up and play. It is a relatively short title (It can literally be completed in a day.), however the bulk of your time will be spent grinding power and looking for clues to defeat the dreaded Dragonlord. This is an excellent game for RPG beginners and those looking to get into the franchise in general. Give it a go!

Difficult to start because it seemed so dumb. I only heard about this when I was younger, so nostalgia wasn't quite enough. After a little bit of grinding, though, I was hooked. I enjoyed the open world and progression, and the controls were sufficient. Not too long, either.

A surprisingly excellent version of a classic game. The visuals and sound have been remade, and whether that's an improvement is a matter of taste, but more importantly the gameplay is well-preserved with no micro transactions or unnecessary changes. Easily recommended

Not exactly the same as the video game on NES but it's pretty close
